What Is Hyperliquid?
Hyperliquid is a fully on-chain decentralized perpetual futures exchange built on its own custom Layer 1 blockchain. It lists more than 230 perpetual markets and clears billions of dollars of notional volume on a typical day. When we last checked on August 11, 2026, that was 232 markets and $2.9 billion over the preceding 24 hours, read from the metaAndAssetCtxs endpoint of the Hyperliquid API, the same public feed the exchange serves its own front end from. Daily volume swings widely, so treat that figure as a point-in-time reading rather than a run rate. DefiLlama's DEX rankings track the same series over time and have placed Hyperliquid at the top of the decentralized perpetuals category. Unlike centralized exchanges such as Binance or Coinbase, Hyperliquid requires no KYC, no email registration, and no account creation — traders connect any EVM-compatible wallet and begin trading immediately.
The platform charges 0.045% taker and 0.015% maker fees on perpetual futures with zero gas fees on every transaction (base-tier rates per Hyperliquid's official fee documentation). These are among the lowest trading costs in the industry, roughly 10-25% cheaper than dYdX at 0.050% taker and 35-55% cheaper than GMX at 0.07% taker. Its custom consensus mechanism (HyperBFT) delivers sub-second trade finality, and the entire order book — every bid, ask, match, and settlement — lives fully on-chain.
